Opening XML Reports with Microsoft Excel

Many new reports in IJJIS provide an option to view report data in Excel or other Spreadsheet programs. If you choose the "Export" option and your report doesn't open in Excel, follow the steps below to configure your computer to open XML documents with Excel by default.

Windows 7 and Vista

 

  1. Click Start and then Control Panel
  2. Choose the Programs link
  3. Choose the Make a file type always open in a specific program
  4. Find and select the .xml file extension
  5. Click the Change Program button to open the "Open With" dialog box.
  6. If Excel is listed in the window, select it.  If not, choose the browse option and navigate to the Excel program.  Excel is usually located in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OfficeXX where XX is the version number.  On 64 bit computer, you may need look in the c:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office directory. 
  7. Click Ok and then Close


Windows XP

 

 

  1. Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, and then Windows Explorer
  2. Choose Folder Options from the Tools Menu
  3. Click File Types
  4. Scroll to and select the .xml file extension
  5. Click the Change button to open the "Open With" dialog box.
  6. If Excel is listed in the window, select it.  If not, choose the browse option and navigate to the Excel program.  Excel is usually located in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OfficeXX where XX is the version number. 
  7. Click Ok and then Close
